WUSF 89.7 Completes Fall Membership Campaign

TAMPA, Fla. (October 25, 2010) - On Friday evening, October 22, 2010, WUSF 89.7 wrapped up its fall membership campaign. This was the first on-air campaign since WUSF 89.7 switched to a news and information and all night jazz format, and while the station finished just shy of its goal to receive 4000 pledges, it exceeded its financial projection of $400,000. According to Cathy Coccia, development director at WUSF, this campaign is a real testament to the value listeners place on the new format.
"I am always amazed and gratified by the outpouring of support of our members," she said. "The generous financial contributions of our listeners will allow us to continue providing the valuable programming they have come to depend on."
During the campaign WUSF 89.7 set several fundraising records. The radio station raised more money than ever before in a single fundraising drive with the total exceeding $420,000. The station also added more than 1400 new members, a 40% increase over its previous best. In addition, the 3,926 pledges received was an 11% increase over the station's previous best for participation during an on-air membership campaign. The funds raised will be used to pay for the programming on WUSF 89.7. Throughout its 12-county broadcast area, the station reaches more than 284,000 listeners per week.
"We're very pleased with the success of this campaign and we are extremely thankful to our community for their enthusiastic support of WUSF 89.7," said JoAnn Urofsky, general manager of WUSF Public Media. We are grateful to everyone who participated, including out wonderful volunteers.
