A Historic Beach Trip
Gregory Porter brought his cousin Betty Harden to the StoryCorps Booth at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg to share her story.
Betty became a part of St. Pete history one June day in 1958 when she and her friends went swimming at Spa Beach, a place long protected by law as being for whites only.

StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. Since 2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 50,000 interviews from more than 80,000 participants, and this past January StoryCorps spent a month in St. Petersburg recording the stories from your Tampa Bay friends and neighbors.
