Dominic Walker: Saxophonist Dexter Gordon

Dominic Walker: Saxophonist Dexter Gordon

All this week we’ll focus on hard bop saxophone icon Dexter Gordon. Gordon got his start on the West Coast, but made his way to New York in 1944 working with Billy Eckstine’s classic orchestra as well as Dizzy Gillespie. He later returned to Los Angeles where he worked with another legendary tenor saxophonist, Wardell Gray.

Tonight on the “Other Nine to Five,” Dominic Walker will be relaxing with Charlie “Bird” Parker on the Jazz Trip@Ten. Plus, more songs from our focus artist of the week, saxophone icon Dexter Gordon. Then later, on the Midnight Standard, we’ll hear another version of Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust.”
