Then & Now 2/1: Puccini Anyone?
Puccini must have liked the first day of February, as two of his best known operas were premiered on this date. In 1893, it was "Manon Lescaut," in Turin at the Teatro Regio. And then a few years later in 1896 "La Bohème," opened in Turin with Arturo Toscanini conducting.
"Manon Lescaut," is one of the operas presented during Sarasota Opera’s Winter Festival which gets underway soon. In addition to Puccini’s masterwork, you’ll hear Bizet’s Carmen, Bellini’s Norma, and d'Albert’s Tiefland. Details and tickets are online at www.sarasotaopera.org
