Then & Now 1/23: The Barber of Seville

Then & Now 1/23: The Barber of Seville

On this date in history, the man with perhaps the most famous autograph in U.S. history was born in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1737.  That was John Hancock, the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence.

And today we feature a live performance on the radio here on Classical WSMR.  Opera Tampa is preparing to present The Barber of Seville.  It’s Rossini’s hilarious comic opera that contains some of the most recognizable arias of all time, with laugh out loud situation comedy, born of the close confidences clients share with the people who do their hair.

Join Bethany Cagle this afternoon as she welcomes Opera Tampa cast members to our Tampa studio for some live music and conversation.  It’s a preview of the Barber of Seville, today at 2 p.m. on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9, on the WSMR app and online at wsmr.org.
