Then and Now: Shostakovich’s opera -Jan 18th

On this date in musical history, Shostakovich’s opera, “The Nose,” based on the Gogol story, premiered in Leningrad.

And today, it’s the first recital of USF’s second Composers in Asia Symposium in Tampa.  It celebrates the works of 20th and 21st Century composers from different parts of Asia, who take their inspiration from indigenous and Western tradition, and American and European composers who’ve been influenced by traditional music of Asian Cultures and performers and scholars.  Tonight, it’s music from composers from the Shanghai Conservatory and others at USF Recital Hall in Tampa.  The concert starts at 7:30.
