Then & Now 7/24: Live Music!
On this date in 1983, Elisabetta Brusa’s Fables for Chamber Orchestra, had its premiere given by the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. Tanglewood of course is the famed summer home of the Boston Symphony, and is One of the premier summer music festivals in the world.
You don’t have to travel all the way to the Berkshires for great music though. There’s a wonderful music festival taking place right now in Tampa, and later this morning you’ll hear some of the performers live on the radio! The Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival is underway that the USF School of Music and piano students from all over the world travel to Tampa to participate in this tuition free festival with the acclaimed faculty. Listen for some of the best students later today when Ariadne Antipa plays some Ravel, Chelsea de Souza – will play an arrangement of Gershwin’s "Embraceable You", and Jiawei Yuan – has the 4th movement from Samuel Barber's Op. 26 Piano Sonata. That’s this morning at 11:00 on Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9
