Then & Now 6/28: Florida Wind Band

On this date in 1959, Alan Hovhaness’s Symphony No. 4 for wind band, had its premiere in Pittsburgh.

If you love wind band music you’ll want to catch the Florida Wind Band’s concert this Sunday night at USF in Tampa.  This ensemble is Tampa Bay’s premiere professional wind band and will present a program called Honor, Integrity, and Service.  Russell Gant will be your emcee for the concert which will feature Summon the Heroes by John Williams, a Fantasy on Yankee Doodle, an Armed Forces Salute, and the Stars and Stripes Forever.  The concert is this Sunday at 7:30 in the USF School of Music Concert Hall and WSMR will be there to record it for you as we’re going to air it on Independence Day at 3pm!  Details are available online at
