Then & Now 6/23: Music at USF
On this date in 1972, the premiere of David Ward-Steinman’s "Sonata for Piano Fortified," was given by Gary Wolf at the University of South Florida, in Tampa.
And USF remains an active and busy school for good music. In just a couple of weeks it’s the 5th annual Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival. Pianists from all over the world visit USF’s School of music. The festival offers free concerts, and wide-ranging classes and private study for the participants with an international faculty. Also, this festival is a tuition-free gift for all students. Many generations of wonderful pianists share performing and teaching expertise with one another and with the public. You’ll be able to hear some of the pianist’s right here on Classical WSMR next month. We’ll have two live performances with festival members. Stay with us for details!
