Then & Now 6/13: A Lot of Mozart!
On this date in 1784, several Mozart works had their premieres. The Piano & Winds Quintet, a Sonata for Two Pianos, and the Piano Concerto No. 17 were all performed for the first time at the home of Mozart's student, Barbara Ployer, outside Vienna. The Piano Concerto may have been premiered earlier that year at a concert given by Mozart in Vienna in the presence of Emperor Joseph II.
There’s plenty of Mozart this weekend as the Sarasota Music Festival, as the next Saturday Symphony concert features the Symphony No. 40, also known as the Great g Minor Symphony. Then, SMF faculty artist Alexander Kerr takes center stage for Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3. It’s this Saturday night at 8:00 at the Sarasota Opera House.
