Then & Now 11/6: Cello
On this date in 1953 Nikolaus Nakokov’s Cello Concerto had its premiere with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy.
You can hear a somewhat more familiar concerto this weekend when the Sarasota Orchestra opens its Masterworks season with a program featuring the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Spanish cellist Adolfo Gutierrez Arenas. You can get a sneak peek at this concert this Wednesday morning when Adolfo Gutierrez Arenas stops by our Sarasota Performance and Broadcast Studio to play for you live on the radio, with music by Schumann, Bloch and Rachmaninoff! Good music and conversation Wednesday morning at 11:00 on Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9.
