On this date in 1615, a letter was written by the Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi to a friend at the court of the Duke of Mantua. The letter accompanied a vocal score that Monteverdi hoped would inspire the Duke to commission a much larger work. After detailed instructions regarding the positioning of the singers and the instruments Monteverdi adds "If you could let the singers and players see it for an hour before His Highness hears it, it would be a very good thing indeed."
Well, Sarasota’s Key Chorale has put in much more than an hour’s worth of rehearsal for their upcoming holiday concert “Christmas with Dale Warland”. The concert features music by the famous conductor and composer, and founder of the Dale Warland Singers. And yes, Dale Warland is the guest conductor of these concerts! There are two opportunities to hear “Christmas with Dale Warland” Sunday the 26th in Sarasota’s First Church, and on Tuesday the 28th at the Venice Presbyterian Church.
