Then & Now 10/18: Prokofiev and Stravinsky
On this date in 1923, Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 had its premiere in Paris. At this same concert, Igor Stravinsky led members of the orchestra in the premiere of his Octet for Winds.
This Friday night, you can hear Prokofiev and Stravinsky on the same program as SymponyCast presents a concert from the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Listen as acclaimed violinist Gil Shaham plays the Violin Concerto No. 2 by Prokofiev, and you’ll hear Stravinsky’s Petrouchka. SymphonyCast is every Friday night at 8, and Sunday night at 10 on Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9.
