Then & Now 10/11: By Special Arrangement
On this date in 1980, Bernstein’s "A Musical Toast (A Fanfare in Memory of André Kostelanetz)" was premiered by the New York Philharmonic conducted by Zubin Mehta.
Bernstein was certainly a master musician. He could write for the stage with great songs like those in West Side Story, or wow audiences with his larger symphonic works. This week, the Sarasota Orchestra is giving concerts that explore how arranging music for a full orchestra can enhance sonic colors and the impact it has on an audience. The diverse program features popular selections from classical composers, as well as the Beatles, and the Broadway smash Hamilton. Tickets and information are online at www.sarasotaorchestra.org
