Franz Schubert: Symphony No. 8 in b “Unfinished”
There are traces of what might have been the finished Symphony No. 8 in other works by Franz Schubert. For example, there’s some incidental music from his Rosamunde that is based on what would have been the final movement of his Eighth Symphony. There are also parts of a third movement, a scherzo, which ended up being orchestrated. Schubert actually lived for six more years after completing what we have now of the “Unfinished” symphony; he simply didn’t come back to the symphony after completing those two movements.
