Edvard Grieg: Piano Concerto in a Op. 16

Edvard Grieg: Piano Concerto in a Op. 16

It’s fitting that the only large-scale orchestral work Edvard Grieg composed was his Piano Concerto, which he composed at age of 25. The piano concerto was one of Grieg’s first major successes, and a government-funded grant allowed the composer to visit Italy in 1869, where he showed the concerto to Franz Liszt. Liszt played through the work at sight, and encouraged him to “go on, and don’t let anything scare you.”
