Edouard Lalo: Symphonie Espagnole in d Op. 21
Edouard Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole is a quirky sort of piece as far as its structure goes: it is part symphony but mostly concerto. It’s also filled with Spanish-type idioms, as one would expect from the title. The work was supported by the virtuoso Spanish violinist Pablo de Sarasate, who Lalo also wrote the piece for, and who premiered it in 1875.
