The Tampa Repertory Theatre presents A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller Directed by C. David Frankel

A View from the Bridge is one of Arthur Miller’s most powerful plays. The play focuses on Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman by trade, in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn during the 1950s. Eddie is confident of his place in the working-class neighborhood he calls home. That life changes when his wife’s cousins, illegally smuggled into the country, hide out in his home. When his niece Catherine falls in love with one of the cousins, the secrets, suspicions, and jealousies that haunt the family and the community erupt into tragedy. Miller’s powerful and passionate play is as relevant and as moving as ever.
TampaRep Artistic Director C. David Frankel has put together a stellar cast: Ned Averill-Snell (TampaRep’s The Iceman Cometh) and Emilia Sargent (Theatre Tampa Bay Awards winner, Outstanding Lead Actress, for TampaRep’s Grounded last season) as Eddie and Beatrice Carbone, along with Michael Mahoney (Theatre Tampa Bay Awards winner, Outstanding Lead Actor, for TampaRep’s The Iceman Cometh in 2016) as the local lawyer Alfieri. The large cast also features Hannah Anton, Nick Hoop, Nathan Jokela, Jeff Lukas, Nathen VanZile and Larry Corwin.

The Tampa Repertory Theatre believes in the experience of theatre — that theatre is the place we go to see how we live our lives in meaningful (and sometimes not so meaningful) ways. TampaRep presents classics, known and unknown, with a special emphasis on American plays of the 20th and 21st centuries.  We create an experience — one that the audience completes — in productions that are innovative, provocative, and classic. TampaRep is an incorporated professional, nonprofit 501(c)(3) theatre company serving the Tampa area since 2011.

TampaRep’s first production took place in July, 2011 — Alcestis, a Greek tragedy by Euripides. During our first year, we produced Cold Storage and celebrated our one-year anniversary with a production of A Streetcar Named Desire. TRT2, TampaRep’s incubator company, also presented three productions: Musings of a “Postmodern” Romantic, Tartuffe, and Tampa Wrights: One-Act Plays by Tampa Playwrights.   Now entering our sixth season, we have continued to present a mix of plays, from the classic (Hamlet) to the contemporary (Silent Sky),  along with our American focus, notably with a series of plays by Tennessee Williams:  Streetcar, The Glass Menagerie, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and last season’s production of Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh. The work of TRT2 continues, as well, with their focus on newer, edgier fare, including the ongoing series, TampaWrights — new one-act plays by writers in the Tampa area.  It’s what we do.  TampaRep: Innovative. Provocative. Classic.
